We always loved this device! When I was roaming in the room and looking for something to model, I found Zoom GFX-8, it came to me a great idea to put Zoom GFX-8 in a scene.
As we own one, we could measure it and model it with a great accuracy, and we remembered that Zoom Corporation supplies a high resolution images of their products and with a little manupulation those images can be used as a texture maps.
Modelling process started with chassis and continued with buttons. We placed buttons, knobs, screws, display and pedal on the chassis mapped with the raw texture map and eventually replaced the texture map with manupulated one. The manupulation was removal of buttons and pedal from the image. After tweaking the positons of knobs the model is almost ready to render.
The plastic cover on the pedal can be easily modelled bu we preferred to use a displacement map. We sharpened the pedal cover image, and redraw it on the original image and finally achieved a proper displacement map for the pedal.
Modelling, texturing and rendering took a day.
